TEACHERS:
I believe a teacher helps shape who a student will become, and I believe that teachers
always have a bigger impact on children than they think. I believe that a teacher might
be the only positive presence during a students day, and I believe that to grow, a
supportive and caring figure needs to be in a child's’ life.
I believe that children will only fully reach their potential in a secure and safe
environment, due to the fact that they are comfortable making mistakes, and growing
from them.
I believe that it is a teachers responsibility to foster a positive classroom climate
through practices that build positive relationships among students as well as teachers.
Something as small as learning names can help students to feel a sense of belonging
within their classroom.
I believe teaching is biased, and a teachers ideologies influence the way in which a
class is taught. Therefore, it is important to acknowledge those biases, in order to
objectively teach the curriculum to students.
I believe a good teacher efficiently and enthusiastically teaches the curriculum, and I
believe that a GREAT teacher engages and challenges his or her students, and most
importantly, builds relationships.
LEARNERS:
I believe in the learner centred approach in which the focus is on what the
students can do, and not what their deficiencies are. It allows for students to develop
their own ideas, and focus on their strengths in order to build new skills and knowledge.
I also believe in this ideology because it allows for students to apply their knowledge in
the practical world.
I believe that every child is gifted in some way, and I believe that every child has the
ability to learn, the ability to improve, and the ability to succeed. I believe children
learn at different paces, and I believe it is important that teachers adapt to how
children learn because only then will they be successful.
I believe children learn through different styles, and I believe it is important to use
differentiated instruction in order to accommodate those specific needs. I believe that
students respond better to constructive criticism as apposed to negative feedback,
and I believe teachers can help or harm a students’ confidence by the way in which
they deliver feedback to students.
I believe that in order for a student to succeed, a teacher must believe in them. If not,
the child will not see potential in themselves, and will settle for less than what they can be.
I believe that students learn from their teachers, and teachers learn from their
students.
We are all life long learners.
